BABAE 18th Year Anniversary

BABAE 18th Year Anniversary

The pandemic has fundamentally reorganized our relationships with family, friends, colleagues and community associations. We have learned that technologies such as Zoom, MS Team and FaceTime will never replace real human contact. It is essential to maintain social connections despite social distancing. Social connection is a fundamental need.

CULINARY ARTS GRADUATION

CULINARY ARTS GRADUATION

Receiving the Certificate of Completions for the 10-hour training entitled: CULINARY ARTS – PRACTICAL AND FUN SOCIALIZATION FOR SENIORS was the most exciting part of the project. It gave the participants sense of pride, joy and self satisfaction! Learning to cook new recipes were exciting and overwhelming at the same time but with the help and support of the Culinary Arts Instructor, Marie Fayne Patricia Alvarado, the experienced was fun and joyful. It created fondest memories when gathered around the table with family sharing and trying the new dishes.

Cooking Lessons
July - August 2021

These cooking classes attracted both seniors and helping non – seniors who enhance inclusivity across generations.   It’s the expectation that volunteers come out with new learnings in simple fusion - oriented recipes. It encourages them to participate in more such activities in the future. Being in the midst of active preparing, cooking, and tasting awaken the seniors’ love for cooking and goodwill. Sharing it with family members was a delight.

Babae Joins 2019 Philippine Heritage Month Celebration

Babae Joins 2019 Philippine Heritage Month Celebration

On June 1, 2019, officers of the Babae: Council of Filipina-Canadian Women joined hundreds of Filipino Calgarians at the Eau Claire Market, Calgary to kick of the Philippine Heritage Month Celebration in Alberta. It was a very festive and exciting event. Babae board members took the lead in bringing its members to this very memorable experience. Families, young men, women and children came to take part in the very first FILIPINO HUMAN FLAG formation in Calgary. Babae members wore their respective blue, red, white shirts and they themselves became part of the Filipino Human Flag.

It was also a great opportunity to meet Deputy Consul Zaldy Patron of the Philippine Consulate General Calgary Office. Babae continues to support the event organizer, Philippine Festival Council of Alberta in its various community events which benefits its members. In 2018, the Government of Alberta declared June as the Philippine Heritage Month and this year various events in the Filipino community have been lined up to recognize the contributions of Filipinos in Canada.

 With Deputy Consul Zaldy Patron
